Announcing Partnership with Dr. G!

Posted: April 26 2018

Sending your son to camp is one of the best decisions a parent can make, but this choice also comes nerves, anxieties and apprehension about your son being away for so long. Each year we try to provide our families, especially our new families, with as many tools and resources to help guide them through this journey. That effort continues this year and we are so excited to announce our partnership with internationally known parenting and camping expert Deborah Gilboa, MD, or Dr. G for short.

Dr. G is a board-certified Family Physician, founder of AskDoctorG.com, and she’s a mom… of four overnight campers!  You might have seen her on the TODAY Show, Good Morning America, The Rachael Ray Show, The Doctors or your local news program. She knows what we can expect from our kids at different ages, how to support them, and how to manage our own parenting worries.

For new families, Dr. G and her team prepared an online program of videos and articles covering a myriad of topics:

  • Conversations to have with your camper before they leave
  • Strategies for getting your child or teen to really talk to you
  • A guide about when to call camp
  • How (and what) to write great emails to your camper
  • Ways to manage missing your camper – for you and your family, even the dog!
  • How to get your kiddo to tell you about camp when they get home

Before you dive into that program, take a listen to Jason’s interview with Dr. G, where they cover what it is like for campers to get off the bus that first day, what campers will see and experience in their first 24 hours at camp, what to expect that first night of camp, how to adjust to cabin life, and much more. We hope you enjoy the conversation and find these resources helpful.
