The Camp Cast – Significance of THE Competition

Posted: July 23 2018

Hi Everybody! Thank you so much for listening to the podcast version of The Word this summer. I have had a great time doing it and I hope you have gotten real insights into CM and what goes on each day. We’ll continue to do them for the rest of the summer. However, today we have a very special podcast that I am putting under the Camp Cast banner rather than The Word. For the next few days at camp, a lot of our posts, discussions and megaphone articles will be about our competition with Camp Kawaga. Between 1pm tomorrow (Monday) and 7pm Tuesday we will play in 69 events across 10 sports/activities. Every camper will participate, and this is the time of year we get to wear the special jerseys we made for each camper and staff member.

We often discuss our philosophy on competition at camp with new and returning families, as being a “competitive” vs “non-competitive” camp seems to be significant delineation in our industry. However, for us, these few days go far beyond just winning and losing. It is a way for us to bond as a camp, get closer as a family and experience something significant together as a team.

Generations of CM campers and staff can unite under this shared experience, and so I thought it would be best to have some of our alumni on to talk about impact that this competition has on our boys, it’s lasting effects and all the positive things that come of it each year. I am thrilled to be joined by Andrew Blechman, Taylor Beauseigneur, Justin Shoeneman and Jonah Weiss on what we can call the Camp Cast Competition Mega Pod. I think they provide some thoughtful insights into this event from both a camper, staff and alumni perspective. I hope you enjoy!

For the Love of Camp – Jason
